Why not the major retained houses?

Why not contingency firms?

Boyce Cunnane's commitment to partnership and integrity, and the experience drawn from its founder's almost twenty-year-long career in tax recruiting, set it apart in the world of executive recruiting. Our unique recruiting approach has made us successful in an increasingly difficult and competitive tax marketplace.

Trust forms the basis of our professional relationships with our clients. We have committed ourselves not simply to filling the needs of our clients, but to filling their needs with the best tax professional available. Naturally, we seek to make quick placements, but we desire more importantly to achieve the best match of client needs and candidate talents and, in so doing, to make the right placement. Boyce Cunnane's clients are guaranteed a productive and professional relationship in which their specific demands dictate both our recruiting efforts and the candidates whom we present to them. Their interests are at the heart of what we do.

Regrettably, not all tax recruiters in today's marketplace share Boyce Cunnane's outlook; for many, the priorities of the recruiter often supercede those of their client. Since inception, Boyce Cunnane has worked to ensure that this does not happen in the services that we provide. We cultivate close and productive partnerships with our clients, and we work honestly and effectively, using the entirety of our extensive tax recruiting experience, to achieve their professional goals. This unique approach has achieved both recruiting success and lasting professional relationships.

Boyce Cunnane, Inc., specializes strictly in tax recruiting. We have successfully filled the needs of major corporations and firms in every tax discipline. We work only with mid-level and upper-level tax professionals.

The most prominent retained firms focus on general managerial roles; indeed, most of these firms refer to themselves as "generalists." They target presidents, chief executive officers, chief financial officers, board members, and heads of operating units. Naturally, the experience and recruiting methodologies of the major retained houses emphasize candidates for these types of positions.

The major retained houses, however, have little interest in an area as highly specialized as tax recruiting. They maintain negligible databases of tax candidates and minimal networks of tax contacts; consequently, the cost they incur in completing a tax search is substantially higher than the costs they incur in other types of searches. Tax recruiting is not profitable for the major retained houses, and the results of their efforts are not profitable for their clients.

Boyce Cunnane, Inc., conducts retained tax searches to fill the specific tax needs of its clients. From a universe of possibilities spread across the marketplace, we identify the candidates who best satisfy the demands of our clients for mid-level and upper-level tax professionals. Indeed, our unique approach to tax recruiting places the needs and demands of our clients at the heart of the recruiting process and ensures that the candidates whom we present are the best, and right, professionals for the position.

The nationwide contingency firms are volume recruiters of lower-level professionals; very little of their business is tax-oriented. These recruiters can only offer their clients a walk-in candidate base identified through general repeated advertising. Contingency firms are, quite simply, movers of inventory, not specialized recruiting operations; their compensation arrangements do not permit extended, focused searches. They cannot and will not find talented candidates with specific tax expertise to the degree, or with the success, that Boyce Cunnane, Inc., does.
